OZNUR PINAR CER, RIBA

Founder & Chief Architect Officer

Oznur Pinar Cer, RIBA, is an internationally recognised architect, inventor, researcher, educator, entrepreneur, and visionary whose work is redefining the role of architecture in the age of climate change.

Rather than conceiving architecture as the creation of buildings alone, she approaches it as a technology of survival, regeneration, and human progress—a discipline capable of producing energy, harvesting water, restoring ecosystems, adapting to climate change, and creating entirely new models of habitation.

She is the Founder, Founding Partner, and Chief Architect Officer of MASK Architects, an Architectural Innovation Laboratory based in Sardinia, Italy. Under her leadership, MASK has developed a practice that operates beyond the conventional boundaries of architecture, bringing together architecture, invention, industrial design, environmental science, advanced engineering, renewable energy, artificial intelligence, space technology, and emerging systems into a single research-driven design discipline.

Her central proposition is radical: the architect of the future should not merely design the environment, but invent the systems that allow humanity to survive and thrive within it.

This principle has led Oznur Pinar Cer to develop and investigate architectural systems that do not simply reduce environmental impact, but actively produce resources. Her work explores atmospheric water harvesting, renewable energy generation, hydrogen-powered mobility, intelligent energy systems, climate-resilient habitats, adaptive modular structures, regenerative hospitality, circular resource systems, and future environments extending from remote islands to space.

For Oznur Pinar Cer, climate change is therefore not simply an environmental problem. It is an architectural, technological, infrastructural, and civilisational challenge. Her research asks a fundamental question: what if buildings and cities could become active systems that generate the resources they require rather than continuously consuming them?

This philosophy is embodied in projects such as the Fiji Solar Crown, which explores the integration of renewable energy generation, water harvesting, architecture, and climate resilience as a unified infrastructure; and the Baobab Luxury Safari Resort, which investigates atmospheric water harvesting as part of a new generation of resource-generating hospitality environments.

Her work represents a shift from sustainable architecture to regenerative architecture—from buildings that consume less to environments that actively generate value, resources, resilience, and ecological capacity.

At MASK, Oznur Pinar Cer has established a model in which architecture becomes a platform for invention. Instead of accepting the limitations of existing technologies, her practice investigates what technologies must be created when conventional solutions are insufficient. Architecture consequently becomes the starting point for new technologies, rather than simply the consumer of technologies developed elsewhere.

This approach has positioned her work at the intersection of architecture, climate technology, clean energy, water systems, mobility, artificial intelligence, industrial design, and space architecture—fields traditionally treated as separate disciplines.

Oznur Pinar Cer was selected as a Europe 40 Under 40® Award Winner, recognising her among Europe's emerging architects and designers. Her work and practice have received international recognition through distinctions including the Golden Trezzini Award, Architizer’s 30 Best Architecture & Design Firms in Italy, the Kyoto Global Design Awards BEST 100 Worldwide, the Green Good Design Award, and the FUTURE HOUSE® International Residential Award.

Alongside her professional practice, Oznur Pinar Cer serves as a Full-Time Lecturer at Cyprus International University, where she contributes to the education of the next generation of architects and designers while advancing research into architectural innovation, climate-responsive systems, emerging technologies, future habitats, and interdisciplinary design.

Her academic and professional work is driven by a belief that the next generation of architects must become more than designers of form. They must become inventors of systems, researchers of new technologies, strategists of resilience, and authors of new relationships between humanity and the planet.

Her research therefore extends beyond conventional architectural sustainability toward a broader field of climate-positive architecture: environments designed not merely to minimise harm, but to actively generate energy, water, ecological value, resilience, and human opportunity.

This trajectory places Oznur Pinar Cer within an emerging generation of architects redefining architecture as a form of technological and environmental infrastructure. Her ambition is not to create another category of buildings, but to expand the discipline itself—to establish architecture as a field capable of operating simultaneously as science, technology, infrastructure, ecology, and invention.

As the world confronts climate instability, resource scarcity, energy insecurity, water stress, biodiversity loss, and the need for radically new forms of habitation, Oznur Pinar Cer’s work proposes a different role for architecture: not as a passive response to the future, but as one of the disciplines actively inventing it.

Her long-term vision is a world in which buildings become living infrastructures—systems that produce clean energy, harvest water, adapt to changing climates, restore ecological systems, support human life, and extend the possibilities of habitation from Earth to beyond.

Through MASK Architects, Oznur Pinar Cer is building not simply an architecture practice, but an innovation ecosystem for the future of human habitation—where architecture is no longer the final product of technology, but a catalyst for inventing what comes next.
